Anthony Finley, a 19-year-old male from Chicago, Illinois, tragically lost his life on July 25, 2019. He was walking on a sidewalk in the McKinley Park neighborhood when a white SUV emerged from an alley and someone inside the vehicle opened fire. Anthony was shot multiple times in the abdomen and was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of South Bell Avenue, near the rear of Everett Elementary School.
The shooter’s SUV was last seen driving west on 34th Street. The Chicago Police Department and the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the details of the shooting.
In the days leading up to Anthony's death, there was a gang-related shoot-out at Hoyne Park, which is believed to be connected to the drive-by shooting that claimed his life. The gang activity in the area had been a growing concern for local residents, who had repeatedly contacted the police about the issue. Despite their efforts, the problems persisted, and the gang members continued to intimidate and threaten neighbors.
The Chicago Police Department's detectives and gang unit are investigating both incidents, including reviewing private video surveillance of the homicide. However, no arrests have been made in connection to Anthony Finley's death or the Hoyne Park gang shoot-out. The investigations are ongoing.
Anthony Finley was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. His untimely death has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
