Miranda Goddard, a 24-year-old woman from Springfield, Illinois, was found dead on July 29, 2019. She had been shot in the head in the 2100 block of North Grand Avenue East. The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office quickly identified a suspect in her murder: Corey M. Cathey, a 39-year-old black man. Cathey was wanted for first-degree murder and armed robbery, with his bond set at $2 million.
The Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Grandview Police Department, the United States Marshal’s Office, and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office, launched an investigation to locate Cathey, who was considered armed and dangerous.

Bouvet, a 31-year-old woman, was arrested on a warrant for concealing or aiding a fugitive, a Class 4 Felony. Bouvet had accompanied Corey Cathey to Las Vegas, Nevada, in her vehicle. Her bond was set at $100,000. Amanda K. Daugherty, a 29-year-old woman, was also arrested on a warrant for obstructing justice, a Class 4 Felony. Daugherty had provided detectives with false information during the preliminary stages of the investigation. Her bond was also set at $100,000.
