Dean Stansberry, a 38-year-old African American man, was tragically killed on July 30, 2019, in Maywood, Illinois. The incident occurred around 6:22 p.m., and when police arrived, they found Stansberry and another victim, Yarnell M. White, 30, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival. Stansberry was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m., while White was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled their deaths as homicides.
Stansberry's death came just months after the murder of his 19-year-old stepson, Isiah Scott, who was fatally shot in March 2019 near a Family Dollar store in Maywood. Stansberry and his wife, Kisha, had been actively seeking justice for Scott's unsolved murder, even holding a press conference a week before Stansberry's death to condemn the community's silence and announce a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The couple believed that Scott's killers were former friends and classmates, but despite witnesses, no one had come forward with information.
The investigation into Stansberry's murder has not yielded any arrests or identified suspects. Law enforcement has not indicated whether Stansberry's murder is connected to his stepson's case. The community and Stansberry's family continue to seek justice and answers for both murders. The Maywood Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward to help solve these tragic cases.
