On November 26, 2019, 34-year-old Deangelo Curtis was fatally shot in a residence located in the 1100 block of South Seeley Avenue in Ford Heights, Illinois. Upon responding to the scene around 12:22 p.m., Cook County sheriff's deputies discovered Curtis unresponsive, with a firearm in his possession; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A 36-year-old woman present during the incident sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where she was stabilized.
Investigations revealed that 28-year-old Timothy McClendon Jr. forcibly entered the home and opened fire on Curtis. In response, Curtis returned fire, during which the woman was inadvertently struck. McClendon also sustained gunshot injuries and sought medical attention at a hospital in Dyer, Indiana, before being transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Subsequently, McClendon was charged with first-degree murder, home invasion, and violation of an order of protection in connection with the death of Curtis. He was denied bail and scheduled to appear in court on December 3, 2019.
Deangelo Curtis's funeral services were held on December 8, 2019, at Leak and Sons Funeral Home in Country Club Hills, Illinois.
