Leonard Wallace Jr., a 49-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on May 12, 2020, in Dolton, Illinois. The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. in the 14800 block of Michigan Avenue. According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, Wallace was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead approximately three hours later. An autopsy confirmed that he died from his injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The shooting also involved Wallace's adult son, who was critically injured in the same incident. The altercation that led to the shooting reportedly involved at least four individuals outside a home on Michigan Avenue. Witnesses described seeing a man fleeing the scene, and a firearm was recovered nearby. However, it remains unclear whether the recovered gun was used in the shooting or discarded by someone escaping the area.
