Fernando Miguel DeLeon, a 34-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on May 30, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. DeLeon was shot multiple times by his landlord, Hugo Garcia, during a confrontation at their residence in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The incident occurred after Garcia, who had been drinking, started an argument with DeLeon. Garcia shot DeLeon at least 15 times, resulting in his death inside the house.
DeLeon was a father of six and worked as a car detailer.
Garcia, who lived in the attic of the same building, was charged with first-degree murder. He posted bond less than two months after the incident and has been on the run since. An arrest warrant was issued for Garcia on August 24, 2020. Despite the warrant, Garcia remains at large, and DeLeon's family continues to seek justice. The case is listed as cleared and closed by an arrest, but DeLeon's mother, Francisca Perez, has expressed frustration with the lack of progress in locating Garcia. She has consistently called the police for updates, only to learn that the detective assigned to the case retired in November 2020. The family hopes that someone will recognize Garcia and report his whereabouts to the authorities.
