On July 10, 2024, 15-year-old Phillip Mitchell was fatally shot in Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Responding to a gunshot detection alert around 5:41 p.m. in the 7100 block of South King Drive, police found Mitchell near the street with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
