Xavier O. Joy, aged 23, was tragically shot and killed on June 8, 2017, in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago, just a block away from the University of Chicago. Joy was a former Morehouse College student and football player, who had returned to his hometown to work as a community volunteer. He was fatally shot in a parking lot near an apartment building on 62nd and Ingleside, where he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.
