On October 20, 2024, Jesse Kendall, an 18-year-old senior at Elgin High School, was fatally shot during a violent robbery while on his way to a Lil Durk concert at the United Center in Chicago. Kendall and his girlfriend had driven from Elgin and parked their car a few blocks away from the venue. As they walked towards the United Center, they were approached by four individuals, two on bicycles and two on foot, who were wearing masks and demanded their belongings at gunpoint.
