On July 4, 2020, Chrishun Keeler-Tyus, a 29-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed at a FasMart gas station in DeKalb, Illinois. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. when Keeler-Tyus got into an argument with a female customer inside the store. The woman called her husband for assistance, and as Keeler-Tyus left the store, another dark-colored vehicle pulled into the parking lot and fired several shots at him.
Keeler-Tyus was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The investigation into Keeler-Tyus's death led to the arrest of multiple individuals. Jimmy Edwards, a 32-year-old male, and Katrina Edwards, a 35-year-old female, were charged in connection with the murder. Jimmy Edwards was charged with First Degree Murder, while Katrina Edwards faced charges of Obstructing Justice. The suspect vehicle used in the shooting was recovered in Aurora, Illinois.
Further developments in the case revealed that Esaiah Escamilla, a 23-year-old male from Montgomery, was also involved in the shooting. Escamilla was charged with 19 criminal counts, including First Degree Murder and attempted First Degree Murder. The investigation remains active, and additional arrests are expected.
