Ronald Jordan Boyd, a 26-year-old African American male, was tragically shot to death in the early hours of August 22, 2020, in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. The incident occurred in the 800 block of North Lorel Avenue. Boyd was among a group of people when the assailant, David Arrington, approached and opened fire. David Arrington, a 25-year-old male from Round Lake Park, was
arrested and charged with Boyd's murder. Arrington allegedly believed that Boyd was responsible for the death of his aunt's best friend a few days earlier. This belief led Arrington to seek revenge, resulting in the fatal shooting. Arrington was taken into custody and confessed to the crime, stating his motive was to avenge the death of his family friend. He was held without bail and faced charges for the murder of Ronald Boyd.
The investigation revealed that Arrington had meticulously planned the attack. Surveillance footage showed Arrington wearing distinctive Burberry clothing on the night of the murder, which matched items found in his possession. Additionally, records from Arrington's cellphone placed him at the scene of the crime. The black Jeep used in the shooting was also linked to Arrington through various receipts and surveillance footage. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of retaliatory violence in Chicago, with the judge noting the prevalence of such acts in the city.
