Lunyea Wilson, a 47-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on September 12, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred during a gathering in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. An argument at a party escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in a mass shooting. Lunyea Wilson was shot in the face and chest and was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
Alongside her, 35-year-old Michael Mickey, who was also shot, succumbed to his injuries at the same hospital.
The shooting took place in the early hours of the morning, around 2 a.m., in the 100 block of North Pine Avenue. The altercation began when a male suspect, later identified as Timmy Jordan, pulled out a gun during an argument at the party. Jordan, a 39-year-old convicted felon, fired multiple shots into the crowd, hitting several individuals. Michael Mickey, who had a concealed carry license, returned fire despite being mortally wounded, and managed to shoot Jordan twice.
Timmy Jordan was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Lunyea Wilson and Michael Mickey, as well as three counts of attempted first-degree murder for wounding three other individuals. The victims included a 32-year-old woman, who was Lunyea Wilson's daughter, and two men aged 38 and 30, who were Wilson's brothers. Jordan was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later held without bail.
The investigation revealed that Jordan had a history of criminal activity, with seven prior felonies on his record. At the time of the shooting, he was on electronic monitoring for a previous gun charge. The incident highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence and the challenges of managing individuals with extensive criminal backgrounds in the community.
