Jeremiah Nieves, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on September 23, 2020, in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 10:36 a.m. while Nieves was walking with his 39-year-old aunt on North Maplewood Avenue. An 18-year-old male, Alexander Santander, approached them, briefly spoke, and then opened fire, hitting Nieves three times in the chest. Nieves was rushed to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
His aunt sustained a gunshot wound to her ankle but was reported to be in good condition.
Following the shooting, Santander fled the scene in a waiting vehicle. Authorities were able to track the vehicle through its license plate and identified Santander using security footage.
