Lyman J. Bates, a 41-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on December 21, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. According to reports, officers responding to a ShotSpotter call found Bates on the sidewalk in the 5400 block of South Paulina Street around 1:10 a.m. He had been shot multiple times in the face and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
