Cyle Hemphill, a 25-year-old man from Chicago, IL, was found shot to death inside a parked car near Trinity Hospital on the South Side on December 24, 2020. Officers responded to a suspicious car around noon in an alley in the 9300 block of South Oglesby Avenue, within a block of the Calumet Heights hospital. Upon arrival, they found Cyle Hemphill unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him and ruled his death a homicide, stating that he had died from his injuries.
Cyle Hemphill, who lived in Beverly, was discovered slumped over in the front passenger seat of a car parked in front of a garage near the southern mouth of the alley. An autopsy performed by the medical examiner's office confirmed that Hemphill died of several gunshot wounds. Given the extent of his injuries and the lack of damage to the garage, trash cans, and fences, it was evident that he did not drive himself into the alley.
The investigation into Cyle Hemphill's death is being conducted by Area Two detectives. Anti-violence activists and crisis responders announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Hemphill's death. Surveillance footage from around the hospital is being reviewed in hopes of identifying the perpetrators.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects publicly identified in connection with Cyle Hemphill's murder. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to seek any information that could help solve the case.
