Tiara was sitting alone in her Ford Fusion in the West Pullman neighborhood when an unknown assailant approached her vehicle and shot her multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident marked at least the 16th violent death of a transgender or gender non-conforming person in the United States in 2021.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and other advocacy groups have highlighted the alarming rate of violence against transgender individuals, particularly Black transgender women, who face disproportionate levels of violence and discrimination.
