Erica Gibson, a 12-year-old African American girl, tragically lost her life on May 8, 2021, in Hazel Crest, Illinois. Erica was visiting a friend's house on Arlington Lane when she was fatally shot in the head. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed her death as a homicide. Erica was pronounced dead at Advocate South Suburban Hospital shortly before 11 p.m. that night. The incident left her family and the community in shock and mourning.
