Derrick McCampbell, a 29-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on May 22, 2021, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when McCampbell and another man were standing outside in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street. An unknown assailant approached them on foot and opened fire, striking McCampbell in the chest, torso, and arm. He was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
