Dimontie Wallace, a 29-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Old Town neighborhood, specifically in the 200 block of West Division Street. According to reports, Wallace was walking across the street early in the morning when he was approached by an unknown individual. After a brief exchange of words, the assailant opened fire, striking Wallace in the torso.
Despite being rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Wallace succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into Dimontie Wallace's death revealed that the shooter fled the scene immediately after the incident. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, described as a Black male wearing a black hat, white t-shirt, blue jeans bleached on the front, and white gym shoes, walking westbound after the shooting. The Chicago Police Department's Area Three detectives have been actively investigating the case, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
Wallace's death is part of a troubling pattern of violence in the area. He was the fourth person to be murdered in the vicinity within a span of less than three weeks.
