Melanie Hope Yates, a 23-year-old woman from Zion, IL, tragically lost her life on October 17, 2021. Melanie, who was of Hispanic descent, was at home reading a Bible story to her seven-month-old daughter when she was struck by a stray bullet. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on the 2800 block of Enoch Avenue in Zion. Melanie was immediately taken to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, IL, where she succumbed to her injuries the following morning.
