Monjero D. Speed, a 31-year-old African American male from Sauk Village, IL, was tragically shot and killed on December 21, 2021. The incident occurred outside Tony's Food and Liquor on East Sauk Trail. On that fateful night, Sauk Village police responded to a call at approximately 9 p.m. regarding gunfire in the area of 2900 Sauk Trail. Upon arrival, officers found Monjero Speed wounded. He was immediately transported to St. Margaret's Hospital in Dyer, Indiana, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation, conducted by Sauk Village police in collaboration with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, revealed that the shooting took place at Tony's Food and Liquors. However, there were unanswered questions about how Monjero Speed moved from the 1700 block to the 2900 block of Sauk Trail after being wounded. This discrepancy added complexity to the case, prompting further investigation.
Following the initial investigation, police identified Billy J. Adams, a resident of Ford Heights, as a suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued for Adams, who was charged with first-degree murder. The authorities urged anyone with information about Adams' whereabouts to contact the Sauk Village Police Department’s Crime Tip Line. The case remains a significant point of concern for the local community, as they seek justice for Monjero Speed and closure for his family.
