Tavares Davis, a 41-year-old African American man, was tragically shot and killed on August 2, 2022, in Dolton, Illinois. Known affectionately as the "Funnel Cake Man," Davis was a beloved local entrepreneur who, along with his wife, operated successful funnel cake businesses at Orland Square Mall in Orland Park and Southlake Mall in Merrillville. On the day of his death, Davis was found near the corner of Drexel Avenue and 155th Street, having been robbed of all his valuables, including his car keys, wallet, and jewelry. His family, devastated by the loss, described him as a loving father and the driving force behind their family business.

The circumstances surrounding Davis's death have led to an ongoing investigation. Dolton police have identified a person of interest in the case, 27-year-old Xavier Harding. Surveillance footage showed Harding entering a white Mercedes-Benz SUV with Davis and other individuals. Additionally, police released an image of a second man involved in the shooting, who fled the scene in a white Chevy Malibu with Michigan dealer plates. The vehicle has been linked to a felony, and authorities are actively seeking information on Harding's whereabouts and the identity of the second suspect.

Davis's family, along with community activists, have been vocal in their plea for justice. They have offered a reward for information leading to an arrest, which was later increased by Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard. The family has emphasized the importance of revealing the truth about what happened to Davis, urging anyone with information to come forward. Davis's wife, Nakesha, has expressed her determination to continue their business and support their children, despite the profound loss.

The investigation into Tavares Davis's murder remains active, with the Dolton Police Department urging anyone with information to contact them. The community continues to rally around the Davis family, seeking closure and justice for the beloved "Funnel Cake Man."
