Cortez Sykes, an 18-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 6, 2022, in Rockford, Illinois. The incident occurred in the evening around 7 p.m. in the 900 block of Haskell Avenue. Cortez was found lying on a sidewalk in the 600 block of Bruce Street, suffering from gunshot wounds.
