In the early hours of a Tuesday morning, Jerrick Jackson, the 47-year-old brother of a prominent Atlanta minister, was tragically shot and killed during a robbery at his northwest Atlanta home. The incident unfolded as Jackson and his fiancée returned to their residence on Lowe Street. They were confronted by several men who robbed them.
The assailants then attempted to proceed upstairs, where his fiancée's daughter was.
In an act of bravery to protect his family, Jackson resisted the intruders and was shot multiple times in the torso. The men stole blank checks and credit cards before fleeing the scene.
The investigation into the murder led to the arrest of five individuals: Alejandro 'Big Poppa' Pitts, Demetrius Morgan, Geno Lewis, Felton D. Lovejoy, and Montravious Bradley. The first arrest was made in August 2013, with Alejandro Pitts, 18, being charged with murder and armed robbery. Shortly after, Geno Lewis, 19, surrendered to authorities. The fourth arrest in the case was Demetrius Morgan.
Ultimately, the two gunmen, Montravious Bradley, 18, and Felton Lovejoy, 19, pleaded guilty to murder and were sentenced to life in prison. Two of their co-defendants, Demetrius Morgan and Alejandro Pitts, received 25-year prison sentences for their roles in the crime. The fifth suspect, Geno Lewis, was also awaiting trial. In a public statement, Jerrick Jackson's brother, Bishop Wiley Jackson, expressed his forgiveness for the men who took his brother's life.
