In the winter of 2013, a young man's life was cut short in Moultrie, Georgia, during a violent encounter that authorities believe was a drug deal gone wrong. Kirby Luis Yon, a 20-year-old male, was found deceased on the evening of Friday, February 1, 2013. His body was discovered inside a car at the intersection of Circle Drive and Third Avenue Southeast, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. He had been a student at Moultrie Technical College.
The investigation into Yon's death, led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, quickly identified another individual involved in the incident. Danny D. Hill, then 22 years old, was found to have collapsed in a nearby store with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso on the same night. Authorities determined that Yon and Hill were involved in a drug transaction that escalated into violence. It is believed that Kirby Yon stabbed Danny Hill, and in response, Danny Hill shot and killed Yon. Inside the vehicle where Yon's body was located, investigators discovered cocaine and marijuana. A gun and a knife were also recovered as part of the investigation.
Following the incident, Danny D. Hill was arrested and faced charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was released on a $100,000 bond. However, no charges were ever filed against Hill in connection with the death of Kirby Luis Yon. The authorities ultimately ruled that Hill had acted in self-defense.
Less than a year later, in a separate incident on January 10, 2014, Danny D. Hill, then 23, was fatally shot in an area of Moultrie known for drug trafficking. His death was investigated as a homicide.
