In the early morning hours of March 1, 2015, a burst of violence outside a Moultrie, Georgia nightclub claimed the life of 22-year-old Tony Harrison. The fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of Sunset Plaza on South Main Street, where Harrison was struck by at least one bullet in what authorities described as a shootout. The initial 911 call was placed between 1:30 and 1:35 a.m. Upon their arrival, investigators discovered shell casings scattered across the parking lot, suggesting the involvement of multiple shooters. An autopsy later confirmed that Harrison succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting was led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. It was revealed that prior to the shooting, Harrison had been involved in an altercation inside the nightclub with another man, Kalvin Suggs. After nightclub staff cleared the establishment, the conflict spilled out into the parking lot, escalating to the deadly shootout.
Following the investigation, Kalvin Suggs was arrested and charged in connection with Tony Harrison's death. In August 2017, a jury found Suggs guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and multiple firearm possession charges. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. In the years that followed, Suggs sought to have his conviction overturned. However, his appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court was denied in February 2021, upholding the original verdict and ensuring he would continue to serve his sentence for the murder of Tony Harrison.
