In a tragic turn of events stemming from a history of domestic turmoil, 41-year-old Katherine Landers was found deceased in her Canton, Georgia home in what authorities determined to be a murder-suicide. Deputies from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office were called to the residence on Woodberry Court, where they discovered the bodies of Katherine and her 51-year-old husband, Cary Landers.
Investigators at the scene concluded that Cary Landers fatally shot his wife before taking his own life. Evidence indicated that Katherine Landers suffered a single gunshot wound to the face, while her husband had a gunshot wound to the mouth. A. 380 caliber handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, was recovered at their home. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab later confirmed through an autopsy that Katherine's death was a homicide and Cary's was a suicide.
The couple, who had resided at the Univeter Road area home for less than a year, had a documented history of violence. Just two months prior to the fatal incident, Katherine Landers had been charged with battery against her husband. As a condition of her bond, she was ordered to have no contact with him.
