In the spring of 2014, the life of a young man, 28-year-old Sohil Padania, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Union City, Georgia. On the afternoon of April 28th, while working as a clerk at Yasmin's on 29, a convenience store located in the 6700 block of Georgia 29, Padania was fatally shot. The incident, which police believe was a robbery, happened shortly after 5 p.m.
The day after the shooting, law enforcement identified a suspect, 20-year-old D'Vontavious Bernard
Williams of College Park. Authorities issued warrants for his arrest on charges of felony murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Williams, described as being 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, was considered armed and dangerous, prompting a manhunt.
The search for Williams extended beyond the borders of Georgia. Following up on tips, police in Lanett, Alabama, a town approximately 70 miles from Union City, located the suspect. On May 6, 2014, Williams was apprehended at an apartment complex where he was reportedly staying. He was discovered hiding in a tree and was taken into custody without further incident. Williams was booked into the Chambers County jail in Alabama to await extradition back to Georgia to face the charges related to the death of Sohil Padania.
