On a violent Friday afternoon in Union City, Georgia, Byron Davis, a 43-year-old male, was fatally shot on July 10, 2020. The incident was one of a series of shootings that occurred along Roosevelt Highway, creating a chaotic and dangerous scene in the area.
The events of that day unfolded with multiple shooting scenes. Another man, Cortez Miliam, was also killed in a separate but connected shooting at a nearby Exxon station. Davis was shot at the intersection of Lee Street and Roosevelt Highway. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A second person was also critically injured in the same shooting as Davis but survived.
In the aftermath of the violence, Union City police identified two cousins, Calvin and Xavier Woodard, as suspects in the death of Byron Davis. Following an investigation, both men were charged with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm near a highway.
Calvin Woodard was apprehended on September 2, 2020, after a police pursuit that ended on Interstate 285. During the chase, he reportedly threw a handgun and suspected narcotics from his vehicle. He was taken into custody and booked into the Fulton County Jail. His cousin, Xavier Woodard, was also sought on the same charges.
