In the late hours of July 30, 2014, Ivory T. Carter, a 51-year-old man, was found shot near the intersection of Hampstead Avenue and Rogerwood Street in Savannah, Georgia. Responding to a call about a shooting at approximately 10 p.m., officers from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department discovered Carter with life-threatening injuries. He was immediately transported to Memorial University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation into Carter's death led to the arrests of Rashard Warfield Mosley, 18, and Laquan Sharelle Brown, 20, who were subsequently charged with his murder. The incident was the result of a planned robbery that went tragically wrong. On the day of the murder, numerous phone calls were exchanged between Brown and Carter, who was a sales manager at a local car dealership and was driving a dealership-owned Nissan Murano. The final call took place just moments before a witness saw three individuals surround an SUV, followed by the sound of gunshots. The witness then saw Carter, who had been shot, running towards him for help before collapsing.
Following an investigation, both Mosley and Brown were indicted for the murder of Ivory Carter. Laquan Brown was later convicted for her role in the crime, which included murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Her appeal of the conviction was later denied by the Supreme Court of Georgia. Ivory Carter was a United States Army veteran who had served for three years. After his military service, he worked for Comcast Cable and then spent a decade in the car sales industry. He was remembered as a devoted father and friend.
