On the evening of October 9, 2014, James E. Morrow, a 51-year-old male, was at his home on Whitesville Road in Lagrange, Georgia, after a day at work. He was enjoying a peaceful evening on his front porch, talking and sharing drinks with a neighbor. The night was quiet with little activity in the area.
Around 11:45 p.m., the tranquility was shattered. A man on a bicycle slowly rode past Morrow and his neighbor without a word. Moments later, the same individual reappeared, this time on foot and armed with a firearm. Without any warning or conversation, the assailant opened fire in the direction of the two men. Morrow was struck by a single bullet and died at the scene. His neighbor was also hit multiple times as he tried to flee and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment.
Neighbors described both Morrow and his neighbor as quiet individuals who kept to themselves and caused no trouble. They were often seen relaxing on the porch, listening to music and talking. Law enforcement was left with few leads and no apparent motive for the senseless attack.
The suspect was described as a tall, thin Black male, who was wearing all blue clothing and had a hat or some type of hood over his head. In the years following the shooting, the Lagrange Police Department has continued to seek information from the public to help solve this cold case. A reward has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for the death of James E. Morrow. To date, no arrests have been made, and the killer remains at large.
