In the city of Savannah, Georgia, a young life was tragically cut short on December 4, 2014. Jamari Gerome Edward Batts, a 15-year-old African American male, was with 20-year-old Naivareal Raheem Smith in front of a residential building at the Madison Apartments on West 54th Street. The two were handling a gun when the weapon discharged, striking Jamari in the head. He was rushed to Memorial University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to the fatal injury.
