In the spring of 2023, the life of 28-year-old Shawn Brooks, a Black male from Savannah, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of March 31, 2023, gunshots echoed near the intersection of E 33rd Street and Waters Avenue, leaving Brooks and another individual injured. First responders arrived at the scene to find both men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, Brooks ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, Eric Adaryll Williams. Subsequently, Williams was apprehended and taken into custody. He is facing a series of serious charges in connection with the fatal shooting, including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and aggravated assault. The second man who was injured in the incident was also a victim in the case against Williams.
Known to his loved ones as 'Pudgy,' Shawn Alexander Brooks, II was a fiancé and a father to two sons. His death was mourned by his family, including his father, brother, sisters, and grandparents, as well as by many friends and community members who shared their condolences and memories. Funeral services were held in mid-April 2023 to honor his life.
