In the heart of southeast Atlanta, a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 19-year-old Lewis Anderson. On a late Wednesday night in January 2015, within an apartment on Thomasville Boulevard, an argument broke out between Anderson and another man. The disagreement took a tragic turn when a single gunshot echoed through the residence, striking Anderson in the upper torso.
He was found deceased at the scene by authorities who were called to the apartment complex.
Initial investigations pointed towards Anderson's roommate as the potential shooter, who had fled after the incident. The days that followed were filled with questions as police worked to piece together the events that led to the young man's death. Witnesses were interviewed as detectives diligently searched for the person responsible for cutting Anderson's life short.
The search for the suspect came to an end in early March of that same year. Acting on information gathered during their investigation, Atlanta homicide detectives located and apprehended Michael Parks, who was 31 years old at the time. Parks was taken into custody on Old Dixie Road and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Lewis Anderson's death. Following an interview with police, he was transported to the Fulton County jail.
