In the late hours of a Saturday, on February 14, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Actavious Tahji Thompson of Cartersville, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call of shots fired around 11 p.m. near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Cartersville police officers discovered Thompson's body in the backyard of a residence. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Near his body, authorities found a small black revolver.
The investigation into the death of the Black male moved swiftly, and by the following Monday, a suspect was in custody. Antavious Deshaun Linley, a 24-year-old from the nearby town of Kingston, was arrested and charged with the murder of Actavious Thompson. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting was ongoing following the arrest.
Actavious Tahji Thompson was a father to three children: Leonna Thompson, Actavious Thompson, Jr., and Ah'mari Thompson. His family, including his parents Ronna and Cedric Jett, Sr., and James Echols, as well as numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, were left to mourn his sudden and violent death. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the House of Liberty in Cartersville, with interment at Summerville Cemetery.
