In the early morning hours of April 7, 2015, the body of 36-year-old Robert Ashley Carr was discovered lying in the parking lot of Woodwright Industries in Cartersville, Georgia. An investigation was launched after it was determined that Carr, a resident of White, had been shot multiple times in his upper torso with a small-caliber handgun. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, prompting an extensive investigation by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation led to the arrests of five individuals in connection with Carr's murder. In May 2015, Stephanie Fawn Gardner, 34, of Cartersville, and Elizabeth Morgan Kelley, 24, of Acworth, were taken into custody and charged with party to the crime of felony murder. Later that same month, 20-year-old Arrick Deandrae Camps and 20-year-old Bernard Mario Dixon, both of Cartersville, were arrested on felony murder charges. The final suspect, 18-year-old Rebecca LeeAnn Dover of Cartersville, was arrested in September 2020 and also charged with felony murder.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of closure to the case. Arrick Deandrae Camps and Bernard Mario Dixon were convicted of murder in April 2016 and were subsequently sentenced to life in prison plus five years, with the possibility of parole. Elizabeth Morgan Kelley pleaded guilty to party to a crime of armed robbery and aggravated assault and received a 40-year sentence, with 10 years to be served in prison.
Rebecca Leeann Dover pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 10 years, with five to be served in prison. She was also ordered to pay a fine and restitution. Stephanie Fawn Gardner, the final defendant to be sentenced, pleaded guilty to party to the crime of armed robbery and aggravated assault. She received a 40-year sentence, with 12 years to be served incarcerated. Gardner also pleaded guilty to charges in a separate armed robbery that occurred a month after Carr's death.
