In the early morning hours of July 13, 2015, a dispute at an Exxon Food Mart in Decatur, Georgia, turned fatal, ending the life of 54-year-old Harry Wells. A part-time pastor and a father to six children, Wells was working as a clerk at the gas station located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Covington Highway at approximately 4 a.m. when the incident occurred.
According to police reports, an argument broke out between Wells and another man.
Surveillance footage from the store reportedly showed the two in a verbal altercation before the other man shot Wells through a window. Officers arrived to find Wells with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation and tips from the community, DeKalb County police arrested 24-year-old Rickey Westbrook. Westbrook was subsequently charged with the murder of Harry Wells.
