In a tragic series of events that unfolded in Moultrie, Georgia, 22-year-old Jordan Shane Croft was found deceased on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Croft was one of five individuals discovered in the charred remains of a house on Rossman Dairy Road. The other victims were identified as Jonathan Edwards, 21; Alicia Norman, 20; Reid Williams, 21; and Jones Pidcock, 21.
Initially reported as a fatal house fire, the investigation took a dark turn when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined that all five victims had sustained gunshot wounds. The fire, it was concluded, was intentionally set in an attempt to conceal the murders. This horrific discovery sent shockwaves through the quiet South Georgia community, leaving friends and family in a state of devastation.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, Jeffrey Alan Peacock, then 25, who was known to the victims. Peacock was arrested on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, and faced a litany of charges, including five counts of murder and arson. Authorities stated that Peacock had shot each of the victims before setting the house ablaze. During the investigation, Peacock's narrative shifted. He initially claimed to have discovered the house on fire, but later alleged that he had killed Croft in self-defense after Croft had supposedly murdered the other four individuals.
In June 2019, Jeffrey Alan Peacock was convicted on all 14 counts against him, which included five counts of malice murder. He was subsequently sentenced to five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. He also received additional sentences for arson and aggravated cruelty to animals, as three dogs were also killed in the incident.
