In a tragic turn of events on a Thursday evening in Jonesboro, Georgia, a family dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a young man dead and his father in custody. The life of 23-year-old Akeem Perry was cut short on June 2, 2016, following a heated argument that turned violent. The male victim was at a residence on Whaleys Lake Drive when the altercation with his father, 51-year-old James Perry, became physical.
The verbal disagreement spiraled out of control, leading to a physical fight between the father and son. In the aftermath of their struggle, James Perry allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot his son at least once. The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. at the Jonesboro home. Neighbors reported that several children resided at the house, but it was not confirmed if they witnessed the deadly confrontation.
Following the shooting, law enforcement was called to the scene. James Perry was taken into custody by the Clayton County Police for questioning regarding the incident. After their initial investigation, authorities charged him with malice murder in the death of his son, Akeem Perry. He was subsequently taken to the Clayton County Police Department.
