In the late summer of 2016, the quiet community of Watkinsville, Georgia, was disturbed by the discovery of a man's body. On August 27th, law enforcement officials found the remains of 32 year old Rendell Joman Cunningham, a resident of Lancaster, South Carolina, in a secluded area off of Fambrough Cemetery Road. The investigation into his death quickly turned into a homicide case, sparking a multi-state search for the individual responsible for his killing.
The Oconee County Sheriff's Office identified 32-year-old Jamar Antron Harris, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, as the primary suspect in Cunningham's murder. Information provided by a local witness, as well as a tip from a viewer who saw a flyer on the sheriff's department's Facebook page, proved crucial in leading investigators to Harris. The search for Harris extended across the Carolinas, involving a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The manhunt for Jamar Antron Harris came to a dramatic end in North Carolina. After a tense car chase, Harris engaged in a shootout with authorities before being apprehended near Gastonia. Following his capture, he faced a multitude of local charges in North Carolina in addition to the murder charge awaiting him in Georgia. He was subsequently extradited to Oconee County to face legal proceedings for the death of Rendell Cunningham.
