In the late summer of 2017, the discovery of a body in a wooded area behind the Macon State Farmers Market launched a brief but somber investigation. On Sunday, August 27, 2017, authorities were called to a makeshift campsite near Eisenhower Parkway after a person was found deceased. The initial scene offered few immediate answers, as the body had been there for some time, making identification difficult at first.
Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office treated the case as a suspicious death until an autopsy could reveal more. The following day, the deceased was identified as Jerry Alonzo Anderson Jr., a 23-year-old male from Macon. The investigation into the circumstances of his death concluded swiftly after the cause of death was determined.
The Bibb County Coroner's Office officially ruled Mr. Anderson's death a suicide, resulting from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Following this determination, the investigation was closed. As his death was not a homicide, there were no suspects sought by law enforcement, and no arrests were made in connection with the case.
