In the late hours of a September evening in 2017, a tumultuous chapter in the lives of Gregory Swinson, a 25-year-old male, and his girlfriend, Jasmine Williams, came to a violent and tragic end in Douglas, Georgia. The couple's relationship had been a stormy one, and on this particular night, fueled by alcohol, their disagreements escalated into a fatal confrontation. The night began with drinking and an argument that turned physical, leaving Swinson with visible injuries. The dispute continued at Williams's home, where the volatile situation reached its breaking point.
The argument culminated in Williams fatally shooting Swinson. In the immediate aftermath, Williams gave conflicting accounts to law enforcement, at one point claiming the gun discharged accidentally after she used it to strike him. The investigation, however, led to the arrest of Jasmine Williams in connection with Gregory Swinson's death. The incident occurred on or around September 16, 2017, and Swinson succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
Jasmine Williams was subsequently indicted by a Coffee County grand jury on charges of malice murder and felony murder. Her trial commenced in October 2018, where a jury considered the evidence of the troubled relationship and the events of that fatal night. Williams maintained that the shooting was an accident. On October 25, 2018, the jury found Jasmine Williams guilty of both malice murder and felony murder. Following the conviction, the court sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
