In the winter of 2017, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Macon, Georgia. Keenan Olajawon Guice, a 20-year-old male, was fatally shot in the chest on the evening of December 18th at the Cobblestone Square Apartments on Riley Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, 33-year-old Deangelo Davis, also suffered a gunshot wound to the chest during the incident but survived after being treated at a local hospital.
The shooting stemmed from an argument that had taken
place earlier. The conflict began when a man confronted Markeyshia Milligan, upset that his girlfriend was involved with her boyfriend, Demarcus Colson. Later that night, Colson, accompanied by a friend, went to the apartment complex on Riley Avenue to confront the man. An argument ensued, and shots were fired. Evidence indicated that Keenan Guice was an innocent bystander to the dispute and was not involved in the altercation.
In the days and weeks that followed, law enforcement made a series of arrests in connection with Guice's death. The first to be taken into custody was 22-year-old Harold Wallace. Soon after, acting on a tip, the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 25-year-old Demarcus Colson and 22-year-old Markeysia Milligan at a home in Decatur. The fourth and final suspect, Deangelo Dewayne Davis, was arrested in the Payne City area of Macon. All four were charged in Guice's murder and held in the Bibb County jail without bond.
In June 2019, Demarcus Colson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the death of Keenan Guice, as well as aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer. He was sentenced to 30 years, with the first 15 to be served in prison. Markeyshia Milligan also pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension of Colson and was sentenced to five years in prison. After the shooting, Milligan had driven Colson to her father's home in Atlanta, where they were both later found and arrested. In March 2018, a Bibb County grand jury indicted Milligan, Davis, and Colson on felony murder charges. Colson also faced an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer and another count of felony murder.
