In the winter of 2018, a dispute over a repossessed vehicle in Hawkinsville, Georgia, escalated into a fatal encounter for Vernard Porter, a 28-year-old male. The incident unfolded on a Saturday afternoon, January 13th, on Second Street. An argument that reportedly grew heated ended with gunfire, and Porter sustained three gunshot wounds.
Authorities were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. and subsequently took Dolton Harper into custody in connection with the shooting. Following questioning at the county jail, Harper was charged with murder and aggravated assault. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Porter's identity as the victim in the fatal shooting. The disagreement that led to the deadly confrontation was reported to be over a repossessed car.
