In the spring of 2018, the life of 34-year-old Jocelyn Shepherd was tragically cut short in what police have described as a domestic-related shooting. On May 4th, authorities were called to a home on Newman Place in northwest Atlanta where they discovered a grim scene. Inside one of the bedrooms, Jocelyn Shepherd was found deceased alongside her boyfriend, 37-year-old Norris Lowe, and another unidentified 22-year-old woman.
All three had been fatally shot.
At the time of the incident, investigators stated that they were not actively searching for any suspects, leading to speculation that the event was a murder-suicide. Only one firearm was recovered from the bedroom where the bodies were discovered. Three other individuals were present in the house at the time of the shooting; they heard the gunshots and immediately called for help, but by the time assistance arrived, it was too late.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, conflicting portraits of the relationship between Jocelyn Shepherd and Norris Lowe emerged. Jocelyn's mother, Gwendolyn Shepherd, painted a harrowing picture of a long-term abusive relationship. She claimed that for four years, she had been trying to help her daughter leave Lowe, but he would always manage to bring her back. In contrast, Lowe's cousin, Mia Ware, described him as a 'good man' who 'took care of everybody,' suggesting that the numerous people who gathered at the scene were a testament to his character. The investigation into the specific sequence of events that transpired in the house that day has not led to any publicly announced arrests or charges.
