In the summer of 2018, the life of 30-year-old Deonta Wallace, a Black male from Atlanta, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 12th, on Verbena Street NW, Wallace was shot and killed. Investigators believe that the fatal shots were fired by a passenger in the car he was exiting. His family shared the heartbreaking belief that he was robbed and murdered by individuals he considered to be his friends.
The aftermath of the shooting left a void in the lives of his
family, including a son and a daughter he never had the chance to meet. In the years that followed, his parents, Victor and Veronica Wallace, have continued to fight for justice for their son. The case grew cold, with a suspect described only as a Black male with dreadlocks remaining unidentified and at large. The silence from potential witnesses in the community has been a significant hurdle for law enforcement, with fear of reprisal believed to be a major factor.
Years later, the investigation into Deonta Wallace's murder remains active. The Atlanta Police Department, along with Wallace's grieving family, have made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward. They have canvassed the neighborhood where the shooting occurred, handing out fliers and reminding the community of the $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Despite the passage of time, his family holds onto hope that someone will break the silence and help bring closure to their profound loss.
