In the quiet suburbs of Riverdale, Georgia, a young life full of promise was tragically cut short. Doumba Sannoh, a 17-year-old female who had moved to the United States from West Africa with her mother in 2005 in hopes of a better life, was killed on Sunday, August 5, 2018. An honor roll student at Riverdale High School, she had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur.
On that fateful Sunday morning, around 9 a.m., the father of her 8-month-old son, 19-year-old Darian Sheffield, arrived at
her family's home on Briar Crest Court. Despite an active protective order against him, Sheffield managed to gain entry to the house. While the two were talking downstairs, family members who were upstairs with the infant heard gunshots.
Upon rushing downstairs, they discovered both Doumba and Sheffield on the floor with gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation revealed that Sheffield had shot Sannoh before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Both were transported to a hospital, where Doumba was pronounced dead. Sheffield, who was initially in critical condition, died from his self-inflicted gunshot wound a couple of days later.
The couple's infant son was unharmed and was placed in the care of family members. Family members stated that Doumba had wanted to end the relationship with Sheffield due to ongoing issues, which had led to her obtaining a restraining order against him just months before the tragic incident.
