In the quiet town of Montrose, Georgia, a Sunday afternoon gathering turned tragic, leaving a family torn apart by violence. On October 7, 2018, Charles Christopher Patterson, a 28-year-old man from the nearby city of Dublin, was shot and killed. The male victim's life was cut short following a heated argument at a residence on Railroad Street.
According to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, the dispute that led to the fatal shooting was not with a stranger, but with his own
grandfather. Investigators reported that Patterson had been arguing with several people at the house when his grandfather, 65-year-old Ervin Blash, became involved. The verbal altercation escalated, and in a moment of violence, Blash allegedly shot his grandson.
Emergency services were dispatched to the home at approximately 3:45 p.m., but it was too late for Charles Patterson, who succumbed to his injuries. In the aftermath of the shooting, Laurens County deputies took Ervin Blash into custody. He was subsequently charged with the murder of his grandson.
