In the quiet town of Dalton, Georgia, the life of 50-year-old George Samuel Henderson came to a tragic and violent end on the night of October 13, 2018. He was found deceased on the kitchen floor of his South Dixie Highway home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The initial call to 911 came from his 25-year-old daughter, Hannah Celese Henderson, who confessed to shooting her father.
In her initial statement to the emergency operator, Hannah claimed she had shot her
father because she had walked in on him molesting her son. This shocking allegation, however, began to unravel as investigators from the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office examined the scene. The evidence collected did not support her version of events. Investigators found that her father had been shot twice in the head at close range, with both bullets entering from behind. This contradicted her claim of a spontaneous act of rage upon discovering abuse.
As the investigation progressed, Hannah Henderson's story continued to change, shifting towards a claim of self-defense during a physical altercation. However, the evidence suggested a more calculated act. The fatal second shot was fired after George Henderson had already been wounded and stumbled down the hallway into the kitchen. Authorities also found that she was in possession of methamphetamine at the time of the incident. It was later revealed that George had been a supportive father, providing his daughter with a car and a food truck to help her establish an income as she battled substance abuse.
In November 2018, a Whitfield County grand jury indicted Hannah Henderson on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of meth. After initially pleading not guilty, she later accepted a plea deal. On May 14, 2019, Hannah Celese Henderson, then 26, pleaded guilty to felony murder. During her sentencing, she retracted her initial accusation against her father, admitting it was a lie. She expressed remorse for her actions but offered no clear explanation for why she had killed him. Hannah Henderson was sentenced to life in prison and will be required to serve 30 years before becoming eligible for parole. As part of her plea agreement, she also relinquished her parental rights to her son, who was to be adopted by another family member, and waived any claim to her father's estate.
