In the spring of 2019, the life of 43-year-old Shameekia Carroll was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. On the morning of Friday, May 3rd, her 10-year-old son made a devastating discovery, finding both his mother and her husband, Randy Colbert, deceased from gunshot wounds inside their Buckhead apartment on Howell Mill Road.
Atlanta police were called to the scene just before 7 a.m. by the young boy.
Investigators found both Carroll and Colbert, who was also 43, with single gunshot wounds to their heads. A fully loaded Ruger SP101. 357 Magnum revolver was located near Colbert, along with two spent cartridges. The initial investigation suggested that Colbert shot Carroll before turning the weapon on himself. There were no indications of a forced entry into the residence.
The tragic event unfolded just four days after Carroll had filed for divorce from Colbert. This detail provides a somber context to the final days of her life. The community was left to mourn the loss of a mother, whose life was ended in a moment of violence that also irrevocably changed the life of her young son.
